Word has reached us that following flooding on the ‘All Weather’ football pitches at Anker Valley in Amington are now structurally damaged and unplayable. It is possible that thousands will have to be spent in repairs to bring them back into action. Meanwhile various local teams are having to find alternative pitches since inevitable cancellations, and for the foreseeable future.

Anker Valley football pitches, off Moor Lane in Amington, were re-opened to much fanfare in 2024 after a £750k investment from Tamworth Borough Council which included a £513k grant from the Premier League, the FA and the government’s football foundation. This upgraded the grass pitches to an all weather 3G standard that could be used all round. Or at least that was the idea.

Questions must now be asked why a so called 3G ‘all weather’ pitch is not all it is cracked up to be, and is closed after mere months of operation. Given the site’s proximity to the river Anker, it might make you wonder why more was not done to protect a three quarter million pound investment from flooding in the first place. More to the point, where is the money coming from to fix it? That’ll be out of your pocket dear tax payer presumably, since insurance is not something we’d imagine was easy to get, if the council even bothered at all to get it.
