Christmas is coming and a certain group leader is likely to be trussed up like a turkey at the next AGM of the Tamworth Labour group. Okay so the AGM is months away, but we couldn’t resist a post with some lame Christmas puns.

This could be the last Christmas Councillor Carol Dean hangs out with her Labour colleagues as the leader of her party council group (we notice they didn’t invite Rachel from accounts). Our mince spies say that such is her poor performance since Labour gained power from the Tories in May this year that she is highly likely to have the stuffing knocked out of her when the group finally decide to sprout some balls and have finished robin her of her position. Although we do have to say that someone appeared to have prodded her awake at the last full council meeting, perhaps because she has caught wind of what’s coming.
Now we have reported on a potential coup at the last AGM of the Labour group, we believe that they decided to avoid the glaring issue with their leadership for at least another year (and potentially to avoid proving us right). This time it doesn’t sound as if she is going to be so lucky. Her lacklustre time in the job has seen poor performances at Scrutiny as chairperson, and completely inconsequential appearances at full Council where she has simply not managed to give the Tories what for, not that there really is anything, but c’mom Carol you could have given it more welly.

But wait, there’s Myrhh! Carol as you can see above has been selected to potentially terrorise the County Council again in May. She has previously boasted during meetings of her former scrutiny committee that she was involved (as a County Councillor) in choosing the position of the new Tamworth Fire & Police station, whilst completely without irony campaigning against both where it is, and for it not having a front desk. Something her colleague Sarah Edwards MP also jumped on, how’s that Labour promise of re-opening a police front desk going Sarah? The Tamworth people you have seemingly lied to would love to know. Maybe this will be the excuse for Carol and her resting grinch face to ‘stand down’ as Tamworth leader if she does manage to get a County seat.
So the question remains, who will be the next Labour group and Tamworth Borough Council leader? Councillor Chris Bain is likely to retire from politics after his term is up and he’s going to be Mayor from May in any case, and Councillor David Foster (deputy leader) who can only be described as the political equivalent of a poorly cooked sprout is just simply not up to the job. Something we heard recently that came into us here at Debunking is that the Labour leadership have told the elder statespeople in the group such as Councillor Ken Norchi and Margaret Clarke that they must not get involved with any ‘patch work’ in their wards, in preference to allowing the ‘youngsters’ in the group to deal with it instead. We understand there to be a considerable amount of unhappiness at the way once legendary Labour figures are now being cast aside having been used for their vote pulling power. So any new leader is likely to be one of the current Labour cabinet, we just hope for the sake of Tamworth it isn’t Councillor Nova Arkney, or Yule definitely be sorry.
