Remembrance day, a time to reflect and honour the lives of the service men women and animals that lost their lives in the cause of keeping our world free. Even more poignant in today’s world where we have Putin and Kim Jong Un doing their very best to play up to the movie villain trying to take over the world trope. It is not you would think at all, a time to take some shots of yourself looking sad and demure in front of remembrance tributes. Unfortunately that’s exactly what our MP Sarah Edwards thought was appropriate this year.

It is quite clear that remembrance day and acts of remembrance are absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with someone’s ego and insatiable need to be photographed constantly. Especially in the act of remembrance. The focus quite rightly should be on those who we are remembering. Sticking yourself in the photo to make sure people know you were there and know what you were doing is almost akin we feel to taking a selfie at Auschwitz, as some vile people ‘influencers’ actually do. There is absolutely no reason to have a photo of yourself in a remembrance day post whatsoever, to us it is appallingly disrespectful, especially when you put on a face like the one she is in the photos. To the social media generation they might think otherwise and think it is wholly appropriate, who knows these days. As it is also pointed out by a commenter on her post, why indeed is she not wearing a poppy if she cares so much. Rather than being thought about with the respect this occasion deserves, she evidently seized the opportunity for more publicity instead.
Unfortunately it gets worse, it appears Edwards was lax when it came to obtaining an official House of Commons wreath to lay at Tamworths’ remembrance Sunday service on behalf of Tamworth people. A good spot from a Mailbag contributor along with a photo, showed Edwards laying a generic Royal British Legion wreath rather than the special wreath she needed to have ordered in advance.

This is what a House of Commons wreath layed by MPs who do care lay:

So, it seems our MP pays only lip service to those who died in the world wars. For her it appeared to be just another opportunity for self publicity and to have her mug in yet another photo of herself. We can’t remember another time when a Tamworth MP insisted themselves upon what should be a day of respect for the dead, and evidently didn’t care enough to at least get the basics right.
