This is a hard post for me to write. We’ve been online since roughly December 2022. I never expected the site to be going for much longer than a year if I am being honest, and then with the launch of the Mailbag we behind Debunking Tamworth saw we had a following, which spurred us on to this day. It’s not been smooth sailing, we’ve gone off track a few notable times, which caused us to have a rethink about what this site was set up to do and how we would continue.

Let’s get to the point, we’re taking a break that we may not come back from. Things have changed so much since we came online. The lives of our team have changed, and what was a short term project strained the time of myself and those who helped us. We’ve also put those who helped us at risk, unintentionally, and whilst we’ve taken steps to help that, it’s not going to go away just yet. The real world work of the research wench is taking her more and more outside of Tamworth, to the point a move is on the cards. If you see Debunking Sunderland pop up at some point then you’ll know she got bored.

As for me, the ‘Debunking Admin’, despite being retired, I’ve not got the capacity to do all of this myself, and as you can imagine recruitment to the team is and has been challenging. Especially when you have world plus dog trying to find out who you are. In some respects, the site could sometimes end up just being about those efforts, which is totally pointless. So I’m taking a step back to reflect and decide on the long term future of this site. In a few months time we’ve got to decide whether to put some more money in the meter to keep the server under the email urchin’s desk chugging away, or let it fall silent.

Those that have supported this site, I would like to thank you from the dark pits of my heart, we have only continued because of the positive feedback from people who understood what we were doing. We’d like to think we had some kind of impact, maybe we did a little bit, but we’re not going to stroke our egos on that score. After all, the troll is still trolling, Facebook is still full of gullible people incapable of thinking for themselves, and people like Richard Kingstone are still followed with adoration by people who won’t see him for what he is. So this site is a bit like pissing in the wind to be blunt. It has certainly been cathartic on a personal level, but it is also equally frustrating. The world has gone even more mad with the rise of Reform. People will always be people, there are those cursed with an understanding of the world, and then there are people who live their lives in selfish blissful ignorance of it. Some might say they’re the lucky ones.

So what happens now? Well there won’t be any more articles for now, and quite possibly ever again. The Mailbag will continue to run for now and we will continue to feed and clothe the email urchin and maybe even adopt him and live happily ever after. After that, who knows.

So for now, it’s been a pleasure, and we look forward to seeing the public wailing and displays of grief in Tamworth as a result of our announcement. Good luck Tamworth, you’re going to need it.
