Labour couldn’t tell the truth even if their elections depended on it. They don’t tell the truth when they want to be elected, and they don’t tell the truth even when there isn’t an election on. They used to be able to get away with it quite easily, until people were empowered with the only good thing about social media when used properly. The power to expose lies and fight back. Obviously we’re very aware of the problems with this and we’ve published a featured reader letter giving another view on Ben Newman’s fight to get his pitch back here. It is food for thought, but Councillor Carol Dean, Labour Leader of Tamworth Borough Council has a lot to answer for. If you’re not on TikTok or Facebook and don’t generally follow Spudman, then here’s his latest video on the matter.

Clear as day isn’t it, Spudman will be able to return to his original pitch. There’s the video evidence, the words came out of her mouth. Oh Carol, do you take us for fools? You can even see behind her in her own video that there is nothing currently built in the pitch space when she made the video. So you’ve got to ask yourself, is she a bare faced liar, or is she really as inept as a Council Leader and politician in general (as we’ve repeatedly said she is) that she couldn’t muster control of the situation and make damn sure her word was kept. A combination of both we would proffer to you, dear reader.

We’ve been sent the following email from the Council which was sent to all Councillors and some staff:

Dear Councillors – further to the concerns raised by the above via social media regarding regeneration works underway on St Editha’s square, wanted to provide some background information on this issue.
Mr Newman has expressed concern that, following the decision to remove the planter’ from the design of St Editha’s square, a fixed bench has been built which prevents him from occupying his previous habitual trading space. He implies that this design feature is new and has not been communicated to him.

In summary-
The bench in question occupies the same place and dimensions as the seating previously included in the FHSF design plans.

In addition, he space available has been assessed as meeting the requirements of Mr Newman’s vehicle.

Following the decision to remove the ‘planter’ from the design, Mr Newman was notified of the proposed changes and once design layouts were available these were sent to Mr Newman with the offer of a face-to-face meeting to go through these in person.

In addition, an exercise was undertaken to provide illustration of how Mr Newman would be able to gain entrance and exit to the space with the relevant ‘turning circles’ shown. I understand this information has also been provided to Mr Newman.

Subsequently the plans have been hand delivered along with a newsletter updating traders and business of the progress of the works.

The Council has sought to engage pro-actively with traders and businesses in the area and two consultation session have now been held, attended by the leader and portfolio holder. A session was held on Tuesday evening to share the revised layout. Both sessions undertaken have been attended by Mr Newman.

The bench in question is included in the design of the square for the following reasons-

The original objectives for the works were to increase ‘dwell time’ in the square. Seating is clearly an important part of achieving this objective

Along with a series of de-mountable bollards, this seating enhances the safety of residents by providing an additional barrier to prevent vehicle access.

This design has been developed in consultation with the Police Anti-terrorism officer and is developed in line with the Terrorism (protection of premises) Act 2025 i.e. Martyn’s Law. If the bench were not part of the design it would be necessary to provide an alternative barrier in order to comply with safety design requirements
The Council will be issuing a communication later today on this issue to address the points raised by Mr Newman.
The Council will continue to seek to engage with traders and local businesses regarding the progress of works to St Editha’s and preparation for the reopening and future use of the square. In addition, the invitation to meet with Mr Newman to discuss the plans will be reissued.

Interesting reading, placing the blame firmly on Mr Newman, and we’d be interested in hearing his thoughts on this, if he still reads this site (admin@debunkingtamworth.com from a recognised email address please.) We will update the story should we hear anything.

So according to the Council, the bench is there to stop the dastardly terrorists driving on to St Editha’s Square, despite the fact there is still an active highway access to permit vehicles to drive across it (you will notice the missing bollard for this purpose nearer the church). It wasn’t built when Carol made her video, and it seems someone decided they’d have the bench instead of a flower bed. Worst of all, Carol Dean who is busy trying to convince residents to give her another go on the County Council, doesn’t appear to consider her word her bond. As we’ve seen many times, this is par the course for Labour. Shame on you.
